Actress Mallika Sherawat recently opened up about her difficult childhood, revealing that her mother suffered from depression after her birth. She explained how her family viewed daughters as a burden, questioning their worth and treating them as liabilities.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, Mallika Sherawat shared that her arrival brought disappointment and sadness to her family, particularly affecting her mother, who likely fell into depression as a result. She highlighted the deep-rooted patriarchal biases present in her family from the beginning.
Reflecting on her journey, Mallika mentioned the lack of support from her family and how they upheld patriarchal values that limited her choices and freedom. She also discussed how women often reinforce these societal norms and restrict each other instead of working together to break barriers.
Recalling her childhood, Mallika remembered the favoritism her parents showed towards her brother, leaving her feeling neglected. She explained how daughters were considered less deserving of resources and investment compared to sons, shaping her early experiences.
Despite facing discrimination and restrictions, Mallika realized that her struggles were common among girls in her village. This realization fueled her determination to challenge societal expectations and break free from constraints.
While her parents provided her with education, they failed to support her interests and foster an open mindset. Mallika had to pursue her passion for sports in secret due to family disapproval, leading to a lack of freedom and self-expression.
Following her recent role in RK/RKay and her comeback in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Mallika Sherawat is embarking on a new chapter in her career alongside Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri.
