Madonna Grieves Brother Christopher Ciccone’s Passing at Age 63
During the early years of the Grammy winner’s music career, Christopher served as her backup dancer, assistant, dresser, decorator, and creative director on her tours.
Madonna said, “When it came to good taste, my brother was the Pope, and you had to kiss the ring to get his blessing. We defied the Roman Catholic Church, The Police, the Moral Majority, and all authority figures that stood in the way of artistic freedom!” Her 1989 “Like a Prayer” video was criticized by the Vatican for its religious imagery, but Christopher stood by her side.
In recent years, Christopher worked as an artist, footwear designer, and interior specialist.
Madonna expressed, “He was a painter, a poet, and a visionary. I admired him for his impeccable taste and sharp tongue, which he sometimes used against me. We experienced the highest highs and lowest lows together, but we always found each other again, holding hands and continuing to dance.”
