Akhtar referenced iconic performances by actresses like Meena Kumari, Nargis, and Waheeda Rehman to illustrate his point. He pointed out that the clarity of contemporary morality is essential for creating impactful roles for women.
Discussing the careers of Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit, Akhtar emphasized that despite their talent, they did not receive significant roles due to society’s lack of understanding of contemporary women at that time. He noted the importance of portraying modern women authentically in films.
While praising his daughter Zoya Akhtar’s work, Akhtar expressed pride in her portrayal of contemporary women in her movies. He highlighted the need for clarity in societal values to create compelling characters on screen.
