Machine Gun Kelly Celebrates One Year of Sobriety Following Rehab Treatment
During May 2023, the former One Direction member marked a milestone of being 100 days sober.
“I feel fantastic,” he expressed during that period. “I feel really, really good, and the support from the fans and everyone has been amazing.”
His struggle with addiction began during the peak of One Direction’s popularity. “The issue we faced in the band—and I don’t blame anyone for this…But it seemed like, when we were in the band, the best way to protect us, given our immense fame, was to confine us in a room. And, obviously, what’s typically in that room? A minibar,” Liam recounted. “So at some point, I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to have a party for one,’ and that pattern persisted for many years.”
He has been open about his journey to sobriety. “It wasn’t until I saw myself afterwards that I realized, ‘Okay, I need to make a change,'” he reflected in June 2021, when he mentioned being sober for over a month. “There were a few photos of me on a boat looking bloated, what I call the pills-and-booze face… My face was significantly puffier than it is now. And I didn’t really like myself much, so I decided to make a change.”
