Ke Huy Quan, Loki’s star, recently shared his reflections on his personal and professional life. He mentioned that when he looks back on the challenges and turning points in his career, he tends to “time-slip” back to a specific day in his early years.
Quan expressed his desire to reprise his role as Loki’s Ouroboros in future Marvel films during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. In a conversation with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, this possibility was hinted at. Feige had previously reassured Quan by saying, “Ke, we always give the fans what they want,” leaving Quan optimistic about his character possibly making a comeback.
Ke Huy Quan: From childhood stardom to adult resurgence
Quan made a name for himself in Hollywood at a young age with notable roles in films like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies. Despite early success, he faced several obstacles, including a particularly discouraging experience in his twenties. Quan recalled a difficult audition where he was turned down for a minor part among thirty other Asian actors.
The rejection hit him hard, leading him to contemplate his future in acting while waiting for a call that never came. In hindsight, Quan viewed this incident as a blessing in disguise, as it inspired him to enroll in film school and gain valuable knowledge about the industry.
Although Quan had considered giving up acting during this trying period, it ultimately motivated him to make a pivotal decision to enroll in film school, expanding his skill set and reigniting his passion for the craft.
Quan reunited with an old acquaintance from his acting career by portraying Ouroboros in the Marvel series Loki, inspired by The Goonies. The connection between his latest character and his beloved childhood role showcases Quan’s meticulous approach to his work.
In an interview, Quan revealed that his portrayal of the enigmatic TVA agent O.B. in Loki drew inspiration from Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. By reflecting on his childhood experiences with Data’s character, he was able to infuse O.B. with a similar energy and excitement, bringing the character to life on screen.
