Lizzo Clarifies Her Stance on Taking a “Gap Year”

Lizzo Explains her Decision to Take a “Gap Year”

Lizzo is staying active.

Just under two months after announcing on Instagram that she was taking a gap year to focus on her well-being, the 36-year-old has shared that she has been busily working on new projects.

“After returning home from tour, I immediately dove into work at Yitty headquarters,” Lizzo revealed at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit on October 14. Yitty is the shapewear brand she launched in 2022 in collaboration with Fabletics. “I’ve been putting in the hours since then,” she added.

The “Good as Hell” artist, who had been on tour for 10 months until July 2023, emphasized, “Even though I may not be as visible, I have been hard at work. This isn’t a gap year for me, it’s a year of hustle.”

Lizzo, whose last release was the song “Pink” from the Barbie soundtrack, also disclosed that she is nearing completion on a new album.

She has maintained a lower profile since 2023, when three of her former backup dancers filed a lawsuit against her alleging mistreatment, including sexual harassment, weight discrimination, and disability bias. Lizzo refuted these claims on social media.
