Lakshmi Manchu discusses the presence of unnecessary people in stars’ entourages
Actress Lakshmi Manchu recently discussed the presence of entourages on film sets. She expressed her thoughts on the excessive number of people present who are not involved in the project.
Lakshmi Manchu opens up about the stars’ entourage
In an interview with the Indian Express, Lakshmi Manchu compared Hollywood and Indian cinema. She highlighted the surplus of “unnecessary people” on Indian sets, unlike in Hollywood.
She mentioned how in Hollywood, actors handle tasks themselves, and there’s minimal makeup and hair crew for the main cast. In India, however, she questioned the need for so many people on set.
Manchu observed that in India, each actor brings multiple assistants, including makeup artists, hair stylists, and spot boys. She questioned the necessity of such large entourages.
The actress also talked about the cultural differences between Bollywood and the South Indian film industry, stating that each industry has its unique practices.
Lakshmi Manchu on being a victim of patriarchy
Lakshmi Manchu recently disclosed her struggles with patriarchal norms. She discussed facing opposition from her family when she decided to move from Hyderabad to Mumbai for better career opportunities.
She revealed that her family initially prevented her from making the move due to their concerns. They questioned her decision to leave a familiar environment for a new industry. Eventually, she made the move to Mumbai last year.
Despite the attention her statements received, Manchu clarified in a subsequent interview that she did not refer to her family as a roadblock. She emphasized that she values her family’s support and sees herself as nothing without her father.
For those unfamiliar, Lakshmi Manchu is the daughter of veteran actor Mohan Babu and the sister of Vishnu Manchu.
On the work front
In her most recent project, Lakshmi Manchu appeared in the Malayalam film “Monster” alongside Mohanlal. Directed by Vysakh, the action thriller marked her debut in the Malayalam cinema.
