Lady Gaga’s Opening Performance Evokes the Style of Moulin Rouge
Lady Gaga is loving the applause, applause, applause in France.
The singer wowed the crowd during the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris on July 26, performing by the Seine River.
In a stunning outfit inspired by Moulin Rouge, Gaga wore a tight black corset, tights, and gloves, while backup dancers in black costumes danced around her with pink, frilly pom-poms. She completed her look with a black fascinator and bold red lipstick.
To the delight of the audience, Gaga sang in French, covering Zizi Jeanmaire‘s “Mon Truc En Plumes.”
After the performance, Gaga expressed her gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics 2024 this year. I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song—a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre.”
Gaga also shared that they collaborated with French designer Dior for the outfits and rented pom-poms from the archive of Le Lido, a famous French cabaret theater.
Concluding her message, Gaga thanked the people of France for their warm welcome and the opportunity to perform in their country, calling it a gift she will never forget.
