Konstantin Koltsov, Former NHL Player & Boyfriend of Tennis Star Aryna Sabalenka, Dead at 42
The sports community is in mourning.
Konstantin Koltsov, a former professional ice hockey player from Belarus, passed away at the age of 42, as announced by the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) team Salavat Yulaev. Koltsov, who was romantically involved with tennis sensation Aryna Sabalenka, was deeply loved and respected.
“He was a strong and cheerful person,” the team stated in a translated message on March 18. “He was cherished by players, colleagues, and fans alike.”
“Konstantin will forever hold a place in the history of our club,” the statement continued. “He played a vital role in our success, winning the Russian Championship and the Gagarin Cup with Salavat Yulaev, showing great dedication on and off the ice.”
The cause of his death has not been disclosed at this time.
Throughout his career, Koltsov proudly represented his country in the Winter Olympics of 2002 and 2010, as well as playing for the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins for three seasons between 2003 and 2006.
The Pittsburgh team issued a statement on Koltsov’s passing, acknowledging him as their first-round draft pick in 1999, with 144 NHL games to his name. Their statement expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the former Penguins forward, Konstantin Koltsov.
