Killer Mike Delivers Passionate Speech at BET Awards, Touches on Legal Challenges
Killer Mike delivered an impassioned speech at the BET Awards on Sunday night, touching on his recent legal troubles and encouraging viewers to get involved in political matters.
He began by expressing gratitude to his wife, Shana, and children, as well as his manager Will Bronson. He then addressed the incident at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 4, where he was detained following a altercation with a security guard outside Crypto.com Arena. Fortunately, charges were not filed in relation to the incident.
“I technically should not have been here,” said Killer Mike (real name Michael Santiago Render) on stage. “I was taken away in handcuffs, but look at God, I’m back.” He acknowledged the support of BET in bringing him back to the event.
“I want to tell Black people that it’s because of BET that I’m back here,” he emphasized. “A Black man runs this show, a Black company organizes this event, and they had my back. Thank you.”
He further proclaimed, “I am a representation of the strength and beauty of the Black family. This victory belongs to us all.”
Killer Mike encouraged viewers to participate in political activities, urging them to not only vote in elections but also to engage with local politics.
“It’s important to know your city council members and prosecutors,” he emphasized. “If you don’t like the candidates, run yourself and make a difference.”
