Legal issues surround Kichcha Sudeep-led Bigg Boss Kannada due to controversial ‘Heaven and Hell’ task; find out why
In a surprising development, the makers of the popular reality show Bigg Boss Kannada Season 11 have found themselves in legal trouble. According to a report by India Today, the show’s producers were served a police notice on October 14, 2024, citing a breach of privacy of female contestants. The Kumbalgodu Police issued the notice following a complaint from the Karnataka State Commission for Women regarding a controversial task on the show.
During a task called Heaven and Hell on the show, the contestants were divided into different areas, with some placed in a setting resembling a prison. The Women’s Commission expressed concerns about the potential invasion of privacy of particularly female contestants in a setting with multiple cameras. Additionally, the India Today report mentioned issues with inadequate facilities, such as sanitation and food.
After the complaint was filed, the Kumbalgodu Police requested the Bigg Boss Kannada producers to participate in an investigation. They also demanded the submission of unedited raw footage and audio from the episode featuring the controversial task. Furthermore, the show producers were warned that failure to cooperate with the investigation could result in serious legal consequences.
Reports indicate that the police have taken statements from five female contestants who were placed in prison-like settings. However, sources cited by India Today revealed that the female contestants denied any violation of their rights, stating that everything was done with their consent.
The Bigg Boss Kannada producers have not yet issued an official statement on the matter. In the meantime, they have removed the “Heaven and Hell” component from the task and instructed the contestants to return to their normal routines in the Bigg Boss house.
The controversy surrounding the task has sparked a debate among viewers, with many questioning the ethics of reality shows. The conditions of the task and the treatment of contestants, particularly women, have been heavily criticized on social media.
