Kevin Bacon Reflects on Being Knocked Out During Footloose Audition Replay, Describes the Experience as ‘Very Strange’
During a segment at the Tribeca Film Festival titled Footloose with Kevin Bacon, the actor shared his difficulties in rewatching his audition tape for the film. Bacon talked about his experiences during filming and his reaction to seeing his audition video again.
In 1984, Footloose catapulted Bacon into stardom with his impressive dance moves and chemistry with his co-star Lori Singer.
Kevin Bacon’s Response to Rewatching his Footloose Audition Video
During an interactive session at the Tribeca Film Festival, Bacon admitted feeling overwhelmed after watching his audition tape for Footloose. He recalled watching the video on a DVD extra and being stunned by seeing a younger version of himself that he no longer recognizes in current movies.
Bacon paused the video, went to the mirror to look at himself, and questioned if the person on the screen was truly him. This surreal experience left the actor reflecting on his past.
Bacon played Ren McCormack in Footloose, a character who challenges a town’s dancing ban and falls in love with the minister’s daughter, Ariel.

Kevin Bacon’s comments about first receiving the script of Footloose
Bacon recounted the moment he received the script for Footloose, admitting he underestimated the extent of dancing required. Despite not being a professional dancer, Bacon impressed the makers with his auditions.
He shared his initial hesitations about the dance audition but ultimately embraced the challenge with his love for dancing. Bacon’s dedication to the role shone through, even though he initially doubted his dancing abilities.
As the movie Footloose celebrates its 40th anniversary since its release on February 17, 1984, Bacon reminisces about his time on set and the impact of the film.
