Kate Winslet Overcame Sexism to Secure Funding for New Film Lee: ‘I Encountered Men Who Would Say…’
Kate Winslet is all set to portray the role of a war photographer in her upcoming film, Lee. The movie is a biopic that highlights the essence of womanhood represented by Lee Miller.
Prior to the film’s release, Winslet shared that she has overcome sexism and self-doubt, particularly after embodying a strong character on screen. In an interview with People Magazine, the actress recalled facing opposition from men who made absurd remarks.
Discussing her experience, Winslet said, “I encountered men who questioned why they should like this woman. It was just ridiculous.” In addition to her role as the lead actress, Winslet has also taken on the role of a producer for the war film.
She elaborated on how it took nearly 10 years to bring the movie Lee to fruition, reflecting on the challenges faced during the process. Presently, Winslet is engaged in promoting the movie alongside co-star Andy Samberg.
Sharing insights on the film, Winslet emphasized her connection to the struggles of the real-life war photographer, who had previously been a cover girl for Vogue.

Recounting a dangerous incident on set, Winslet disclosed a moment where she nearly accelerated while shooting a scene.
Lee had abandoned her modeling career to pursue a greater purpose and evolved significantly in her 30s, 40s, and beyond. Winslet highlighted the energy and determination of Lee to live life on her own terms, never backing down and maintaining her momentum.
The actress also emphasized her dedication to her work, admitting that she struggles to separate work from family time at home.
The official synopsis of the movie Lee describes it as the story of photographer Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller, a former fashion model who became a renowned war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II.
The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 27.
