In a conversation with Faye D’Souza, Karan Johar reflected on his past failures and revealed his personal battles with body image. He admitted that as a child, he felt self-conscious about his appearance, which influenced his aspiration to join the film industry.
While addressing his ongoing struggles with body dysmorphia, Karan Johar confessed, “I have body dysmorphia, I feel very uncomfortable in a pool.” Despite his efforts to address this issue, he still grapples with feelings of inadequacy.
The director of “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” shared that his discomfort with his body shape contributes to his preference for oversized clothing. Regardless of his attempts to lose weight, he continues to perceive himself as overweight and avoids revealing his body to others.
Karan Johar acknowledges self-body shaming
Karan Johar revealed that his discomfort with his body extends to intimate situations and has been a long-standing issue since childhood. He admitted to constantly engaging in self-body shaming and feeling the need to conceal his body even in personal moments.
According to Karan, unresolved childhood issues can lead to mental health struggles, as he experienced two years ago when he developed social anxiety and suffered a panic attack. Seeking therapy and medication has been crucial for his mental well-being.
