Madurai District Court postpones case seeking ban on Indian 2 release
According to ANI, Aasan Rajendran, who leads the Varmakalai, Martial Arts, and Research Academy in Madurai’s HMS Colony, has filed a petition against the movie. Rajendran claims that he provided Kamal Haasan with Varma Kalai training for the original Indian film and his contributions were recognized.
However, Rajendran argues that Indian 2 uses these techniques without his consent, leading him to request a ban on the movie’s release in theaters and on OTT platforms.
The initial hearing took place on Monday in the Madurai District Court, and the court has postponed the proceedings to July 11, giving more time to the Indian 2 production team to respond to Rajendran’s petition.
For those unfamiliar, Varma Kalai is a traditional Tamil art that focuses on vital points of the body. It combines massage, alternative medicine, traditional yoga, and martial arts to either heal or cause harm. The healing technique, known as Vaidhiya Murai, is part of Siddha medicine.
