The romantic blockbuster, released in 1995, still holds screenings at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir Theatre almost three decades later. Celebrating its 29th anniversary on October 20, 2024, the film stars Kajol as Simran and Shah Rukh Khan as Raj. Kajol expressed that the movie still resonates authentically with audiences today.
Kajol acknowledged the film’s global popularity and its impact on fans, sharing stories of individuals creating traditions around it. She recounted meeting a man who took his girlfriend to see the movie 27 times before proposing to her, eventually leading to a family tradition of watching the film.
Despite her desire to take credit for the film’s success, Kajol emphasized that it truly belongs to the fans rather than herself or the team. Directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra, DDLJ narrates the love story of Raj and Simran, two young Indians who fall in love while abroad.
