Julie Bowen Opens Up About Supporting Sarah Hyland Through Abusive Relationship
Julie Bowen is sharing about her connection with Sarah Hyland.
The 54-year-old recently discussed supporting her Modern Family costar during a difficult time in Hyland’s life when she was in an abusive relationship.
“I was a responsible adult who happened to be there at the right moment,” Bowen said on the June 3 episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast. “I mean, I’m sure another responsible adult would have done the same thing. I just adore her.”
In fact, the actress, known for her role as mom Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, expressed a maternal connection to all the actors who played her children on the show, including Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, as well as Rico Rodriguez, who portrayed her stepbrother.
“I see them all as my own kids,” she continued. “I cherish them.”
In 2014, Hyland obtained a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Prokop, with court documents revealing allegations of physical and verbal abuse, including an incident of choking. Hyland also claimed that Prokop threatened her after their breakup, as reported by E! News.
