Josh Brolin Reflects on Childhood Surrounded by Exotic Animals and a ‘Crazy’ Mother
Josh Brolin, the famous Marvel villain, recently shared stories from his childhood surrounded by animals. He spoke about his mother, a huge animal lover, who exposed him to wildlife from a young age. During an interview on Sirius XM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, the Avengers: Infinity War star reminisced about his unconventional upbringing and his unfiltered mother.
While chatting with Ted Denson and Woody Harrelson, the Dune actor confessed how his mother once nearly fed a man to a lion. He described his mother as wild but appreciative of the unique perspective she granted him.
“She was a way station for animals that had been illegally taken out of the wild [by people who try] to domesticate them,” Brolin shared. He mentioned how his mother would seek justice for mistreated animals and provide them with care and refuge through her organization.
In addition, Brolin mentioned that his mother had a man named Bud to care for the animals and ensure they were properly fed and tended to when sick.

He continued, “And she (the mother) goes, ‘Well, sit next to him.’ And the [lion] just sits there, and she goes, ‘Now put the bowl up to your face and then lower your head like you’re eating.’ And then he gets up, and the lion moves forward, as if intrigued.”
Reflecting on his upbringing, Brolin described it as unconventional but transformative, shaping his values and career success in the entertainment industry.
