JoJo Opens Up About Struggles With Alcohol and Drug Addictions
Over a decade ago, Joanna “JoJo” Levesque started facing a personal struggle.
The singer, known for her hit songs like “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late,” opened up in her new memoir about her battles with alcohol and addiction to Adderall, a stimulant, and Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication.
As she was completing her book in 2023, she decided to join an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting with a friend.
“I felt like I needed a sense of community and belonging,” shared JoJo, now 33, in an interview with People on September 17, the day her book Over the Influence was published. “I didn’t feel like myself, and AA has always been a grounding force for me since I was young.”
The Aquamarine star, who mentioned she is not currently sober, revealed in her memoir that both of her parents struggled with addiction and actually met in AA. JoJo also recalled one of her earliest childhood memories of attending an AA meeting with her mother when she was just a toddler.
