Joe Biden withdraws from the 2024 Presidential Election
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked tirelessly to secure my reelection,” he stated. “I am grateful to Vice President Kamala Harris for her exceptional partnership in this endeavor. I also want to thank the American people for their unwavering faith and trust in me.”
In a subsequent statement, he officially endorsed Harris, 59, as the Democratic nominee.
“To my fellow Democrats, I have made the decision to decline the nomination and dedicate all my efforts to fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” he disclosed. “Selecting Kamala Harris as my Vice President was my very first decision as the party nominee in 2020, and it has proven to be the best choice I have made.”
He went on to say, “Today, I wholeheartedly endorse Kamala as the party’s nominee for this year. Democrats, it is time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s make it happen.”
Shortly after the announcement, Biden’s wife, First Lady Jill Biden, reacted by reposting his letter on X and including a heart emoji.
