Jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer credits Gwyneth Paltrow for helping her navigate through her split from ex-husband Tobey Maguire. During an episode of the Broad Ideas podcast, Meyer reflected on her separation from the Spiderman actor in 2016 and their subsequent divorce in 2020. She shared how Paltrow and Chris Martin’s amicable breakup served as an inspiration for her own situation.

“Right when Tobey and I were starting to break up, I watched what Gwyneth Paltrow was starting to do with Chris—this conscious uncoupling that everyone was making fun of,” Meyer mentioned, referring to the former couple who were once highly regarded in the industry. Paltrow and Martin, who married in 2003 and have two children, announced their separation in 2014, coining the term “conscious uncoupling.”
“I got to see it firsthand, and it was the most beautiful thing that I had ever witnessed two human beings go through. She was so loving and kind and open to him, and she created this family,” Meyer recalled in awe. This experience helped her challenge her preconceptions about divorce following her parents’ own separation.

Furthermore, Meyer turned to Paltrow for guidance during her split from Maguire. The couple married in 2007 and announced their divorce nine years later. Admitting her fears and uncertainty to Paltrow, she was introduced to Dr. Habib Sadeghi, whom she described as a supportive figure during her tough times.
Despite their separation, Maguire and Meyer maintain a positive relationship. Meyer even mentioned that she considers him her best friend and defends him against false rumors, such as the speculation about his romantic involvement with a 20-year-old model.
