Janhvi Kapoor addresses uproar over viral ‘Gandhi-Ambedkar debate’ comment, dismisses speculation of it being a publicity stunt

In a recent interview with Mashable India, the debutant from Dhadak addressed her viral statement about wanting to witness a debate between Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar. While there was no negative criticism surrounding her statement, some perceived Kapoor as lacking wisdom and being purely driven by PR motives.
Janhvi Kapoor’s Response to the Gandhi-Ambedkar Controversy
The internet was taken aback by Janhvi’s words, and in response, the 27-year-old shared, “Is it so hard to believe that a young actress can have an opinion?”. Kapoor recounted how despite accusations of PR involvement, her team was eager to distance themselves from that particular remark.

Shortly after the Lallantop interview, Janhvi started to panic. She admitted, “I said the film (Mr. & Mrs. Mahi) is about to be released. I don’t know how people will interpret this. I don’t know if it’s the right thing.” Even her team became anxious and immediately contacted the channel to remove that part.
However, despite their efforts, the channel refused to edit the interview. Janhvi finds it ironic that while her team wanted to suppress the statement, people believed she was trained to make such controversial remarks.
Janhvi Kapoor’s Journey Beyond the Film Industry
Reflecting on her curiosity about the world beyond cinema, Janhvi shared, “I realized that I am a part of society. I am a Hindu and yet, I know so little about my culture and society. I reside on Ambedkar Road and yet, I had minimal knowledge about his historical significance.” This revelation led Janhvi to delve deeper into the subjects she now passionately discusses.
