Jack Antonoff defends Taylor Swift’s songwriting against critics
Jack Antonoff is defending Taylor Swift against critics questioning her songwriting abilities.
The music producer and Bleachers frontman has collaborated with Swift on every album since her 2014 hit ‘1989’, including her upcoming LP ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ set to release on April 19.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Antonoff responded to Damon Albarn’s past claim that Swift doesn’t write her own songs with a blunt message: “If you were there… cool… go off. If not… maybe… shut the f**k up?”
Antonoff dismissed Albarn’s comments as “completely absurd,” emphasizing Swift’s songwriting talent: “You’re talking about one of the greatest songwriters of our generation who has her name as the only name on many songs. You don’t need me to explain it – it’s fact.”
He further criticized artists who make baseless claims, likening it to a “Trumpian approach of just making things up.”
When reminded of the issue in a recent interview with the LA Times, Antonoff fiercely defended Swift, stating, “You come after my friend Taylor, you’re toast to me.”
He compared questioning Swift’s songwriting skills to challenging someone’s faith in God, emphasizing, “You just don’t go there.”
Antonoff also took a swipe at Kanye West, criticizing the rapper and hinting at a lack of interest in collaborating with him in the future.
Earlier, Antonoff won the Producer Of The Year award at the 2024 Grammys, where Swift’s album ‘Midnights’ also received accolades.
Swift herself expressed the importance of songwriting on ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, calling it a lifeline during a challenging time.
In addition to her music accolades, Swift is nominated for International Artist Of The Year at the upcoming BRIT Awards 2024.
