Nostalgic Carol Burnett Prints Hands at Chinese Theater She Visited as a Kid: Coming Full Circle
During Carol Burnett’s hand-printing ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theater, she experienced a wave of nostalgia. This theater holds special significance for her as she visited it with her grandmother as a child. Burnett, a veteran Emmy-winning actress, is best known for her role in Annie and more recently, the Apple TV+ series Palm Royale.
Carol Burnett’s Nostalgic Moment
On June 20, the 91-year-old actress immortalized the impressions of her hands and feet at the iconic TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This moment felt like a “full circle” experience for her. “I remember I was 10 or 11 years old, and I would put my handprints on Betty Grable’s hands, and now they have mine 80 years later. Who knew?” she shared with PEOPLE.
Printing her hands made Burnett feel like her younger self, goofing around by placing her hands on Betty Grable’s handprints. She mentioned that being just down the street from the theater added to the honor’s special feeling. Recently receiving a Star on Hollywood Boulevard opposite a theater where she once worked as an usher, Burnett expressed, “So I’ve come full circle.”
The star-studded ceremony involved Allison Janney, Bill Hader, Jane Lynch, Lisa Ann Walter, Maya Rudolph, and many others. Laura Dern, Bob Odenkirk, and Dick Van Dyke from Palm Royale were also in attendance. Jimmy Kimmel, with his wife, spoke at the ceremony in honor of Burnett.
Burnett’s Reflection on Her Career
Throughout her illustrious career, Burnett has amassed six Emmys, six Golden Globes, one Grammy, and a Kennedy Center honor. In April 2023, she spoke about her remarkable career in celebration of her 90th birthday.
Burnett reminisced about being a quiet and shy child who enjoyed joking around with friends and discovered her talent for comedy. It was during an acting class at UCLA that she realized her comedic prowess. Recalling students performing heavy dramatic pieces, she thought she couldn’t do it. “So I picked something light and they laughed. That’s when the bug bit,” she recalled.
