Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reveal how they secured the license to use Madonna’s song in Deadpool & Wolverine
In a recent interview on SiriusXM with Andy Cohen, Reynolds and Jackman, along with director Shawn Levy, talked about meeting Madonna and personally requesting the license for her song. They had to bring their team to visit her and show her how the song would be used in the film.
Shawn Levy explained that it is rare for Madonna to grant a license for that particular song. Reynolds emphasized the importance of their request and the special effort they put in to get it approved.
The Deadpool actor, 47, said, “Let’s preface it with the fact that they don’t license — that Madonna doesn’t just license the song, particularly that song. It was a big deal to ask for it and certainly a bigger deal to use it. We went over and met with her and showed her how it was being used, and where, and why.”
Levy and Reynolds felt like they were meeting royalty and Reynolds even joked about what to call Madonna during the meeting.
He said, “Like am I allowed to just say, ‘Madonna?'” The tension and respect towards the Queen of Pop were evident in the room.
