In August 15, 2024, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially started their trip to Columbia after being invited by the Vice President, Francia Márquez, who is the first black woman to hold that position in the country. Márquez also works as Columbia’s Minister for Equality and Equity and previously invited Meghan to an event in July, which she couldn’t attend. Meghan expressed her eagerness to visit Columbia and get to know the country during that time.
