“Percy Jackson Actor Reveals He Nearly Made a Deadpool and Wolverine Cameo Because It Didn’t Make Sense”
Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy had a few cameos in mind for the film, but not all of them were included in the final cut. One of the cameos that didn’t make it to the screen was Percy Jackson star Walker Scobell’s appearance as Kidpool. Scobell played a younger version of Reynolds in The Adam Project, also directed by Levy, making his cameo seem like a perfect match. However, the young actor didn’t feel the same way!
During an interview with IGN, Scobell, who is 15 years old, revealed that there were discussions about him being part of the movie, possibly as Kidpool or Teenpool. However, due to growth and commitments to Percy Jackson, it didn’t make sense at that time. Scobell mentioned that Levy called him to discuss the potential cameo, which was a surreal experience for the actor. He had a gut feeling that his portrayal of Kidpool wouldn’t work out, so he wasn’t surprised when Levy informed him about it.
“Receiving a call from Levy to let me know that the cameo wasn’t happening, which I hadn’t expected in the first place… was more than I could have asked for,” Scobell recalled.
Scobell is currently busy filming the sequel to Percy Jackson. He acknowledges that he has grown substantially since the 2023 film Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which he finds unfortunate.
“I have unfortunately grown a lot, which doesn’t align with the continuity from the previous season, but, you know,” he shared with the portal. Levy also jokingly attributed Scobell’s puberty as the reason for his missed cameo in the Marvel blockbuster.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Levy mentioned that it was Scobell’s dream to make a special appearance in the movie. He joked that if Scobell had stopped evolving just before puberty, he would have been perfect for Kidpool. However, due to his growth spurt and voice changing, he couldn’t fit the role. Levy and Reynolds reached out to explain the situation to Scobell, who understood completely.
