Lifetime Honor Award to Be Presented to Isabella Rossellini at the European Film Awards
Italian actress Isabella Rossellini is set to receive the European Achievement in World Cinema award, a prestigious lifetime achievement honor, at the upcoming European Film Awards.
Daughter of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman and Italian film director Roberto Rossellini, Isabella Rossellini started her career as a successful fashion model, notably for French cosmetics brand Lancôme, before transitioning to acting. She gained recognition for her roles in films like “The Meadow” (1979) and “Blue Velvet” (1986), where she portrayed the enigmatic nightclub singer Dorothy Vallens. Rossellini’s performance in “Blue Velvet” also earned her the Independent Spirit Award for best female lead.
Throughout her career, Rossellini has worked on a variety of projects ranging from big-budget features to independent films, collaborating with renowned directors such as Robert Zemeckis, Peter Weir, Peter Greenaway, Guy Maddin, Marjane Satrapi, and Alice Rohrwacher. She has also made appearances in television shows like “Chicago Hope,” “Alias,” “30 Rock,” and “Friends.”
Recently, Rossellini starred as a nosy nun in the highly acclaimed film “Conclave” directed by Edward Berger.
In addition to her acting career, Rossellini has also delved into filmmaking with projects like “Green Porno,” “Seduce Me,” and “Mammas,” a series of humorous shorts exploring the mating habits of animals.
The European Film Academy praised Rossellini’s talent and contribution to world cinema, describing her as a versatile artist whose work continues to shape the industry.
Outside of her entertainment career, Rossellini founded her own cosmetics brand, Manifesto, after being dropped by Lancôme at the age of 40. She later rejoined Lancôme in 2018 as a spokesperson to advocate for inclusivity and combat ageism in the beauty industry.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Rossellini holds a master’s degree in Animal Behaviour and Conservation from Hunter College and an honorary PhD from the University of Quebec at Montreal. She also manages her own organic farm, Mama Farm, in Brookhaven.
Isabella Rossellini will be honored at the 37th European Film Awards in Lucerne, Switzerland, on December 7th.
