Could Thalapathy 69, starring Vijay, be a revival of H Vinoth’s shelved project with Kamal Haasan?
Thalapathy Vijay is gearing up to start working on his next film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 69. Directed by H. Vinoth, the movie seems to be an action film with political themes. But is there any connection between this movie and the director’s previously shelved project with Kamal Haasan?
The announcement of the new film starring Thalapathy Vijay was officially made with a poster showing a man holding a torch. The caption reads, “The torchbearer of Democracy is arriving in October 2025.”
In contrast, the project with Kamal Haasan and H. Vinoth, previously known as KH233, had a similar announcement video. A 37-second clip released earlier featured the iconic actor holding a torch, surrounded by silhouettes of followers.

The similarities between both announcements have sparked speculation about whether H. Vinoth has resurrected his shelved project and tailored it for Thalapathy Vijay instead of Kamal Haasan. However, it’s unclear if the two movies are related in any way or if it’s just a coincidence.
For those unfamiliar, H. Vinoth was initially set to direct Kamal Haasan’s film KH233. Despite reports of the actor preparing for the role, the project was eventually dropped.
The upcoming movie starring Thalapathy Vijay is said to be his final film before fully focusing on his political career. Anirudh Ravichander will be collaborating with the actor for the 5th time in Thalapathy 69, following their last movie together – Leo.
Although the movie has been officially announced, the cast has not been revealed yet. There are rumors of Simran reuniting with Vijay on screen after many years, but this is unconfirmed until an official update is provided.
