Have the makers shelved the Suriya and Janhvi Kapoor starrer movie “Karna” worth Rs 350 crores?
The movie Karna, starring Suriya and Janhvi Kapoor and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, has been shelved by the makers. The production house has informed department heads about the cancellation, according to Bollywood Hungama.
With a budget of Rs 350 crores, Karna was based on the Mahabharata character Karna, with Janhvi Kapoor playing Draupadi. The makers had already spent Rs 15 crores on pre-production and look tests.
Is Suriya and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Karna canceled by the makers?
The film, backed by Excel Entertainment, was supposed to be Suriya’s debut in a direct Hindi movie, co-starring with Janhvi Kapoor. The cast also included Ali Fazal, Vijay Verma, and Avinash Tiwari in key roles.
Karna was expected to use special effects and craftsmanship in post-production to bring the mythological epic to life. It was planned for release in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Despite the cancellation, the actors have reportedly moved on to other projects while an official confirmation is awaited.
Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming projects
Janhvi Kapoor’s recent film with Rajkummar Rao centered on a cricket-loving couple and her upcoming projects include Devara: Part 1 and Ulajh in 2024. She is also set to debut in Telugu cinema with Jr NTR and later collaborate with Ram Charan for RC16.
Suriya’s current projects
Suriya is gearing up for the release of Kanguva, a fantasy action movie directed by Siva, featuring Disha Patani, Bobby Deol, and others in their Tamil debut. He is also filming for Suriya 44 directed by Karthik Subbaraj and will make a cameo in the film Sarfira.
