Disney+ Announces Digital Release Date for Inside Out 2; Find Out More Information
Pixar announced on Thursday, September 12, via their social media platforms that Inside Out 2 will debut on Disney+ streaming service on September 25. The sequel to the 2015 family comedy became a huge success, grossing $1 billion worldwide.
The film depicts the growth of a young girl named Riley from infancy to adolescence in the latest installment. Her journey is explored through the emotions she experiences with each milestone. The original movie showcased Riley learning about different emotions such as joy, anger, disgust, fear, and sadness.
When Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler) goes missing from Riley’s emotional headquarters, the girl plunges into a life devoid of happiness and embarks on a dark journey guided by negative emotions. Amidst this, sadness starts touching many of Riley’s cherished memories against Joy’s resistance.
Eventually, when Joy returns to the headquarters, she understands the importance of sadness as a necessary and powerful emotion. This imparts a valuable lesson to viewers about balancing emotions for a fulfilling life and rejecting toxic positivity.
In the sequel, Riley enters her teenage years, inviting a host of new and complicated emotions like anxiety, ennui, envy, and embarrassment, among others. These emotions navigate Riley’s life amidst the turbulence of friends, school, and family. While Riley copes with adolescence, her original emotions grapple with the possibility of being replaced.
The sequel features returning cast members including Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, and Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan as Riley’s parents. New voice actors include Maya Hawke as anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Kensington Tallman as teen Riley, Tony Hale as fear, and Liza Lapira as disgust (previously voiced by Mindy Kaling). Other additions to the cast include Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser.
