Exploring the Close Father-Daughter Relationship of Eminem and Hailie Jade Mathers
Eminem’s lyrics about his daughters often reflect his fear of not being there for them, whether due to being on the road or, more commonly, because he’s no longer around. In his song “Arose” from 2017, he sings about always cherishing each other and how he’ll always be in the back of their memory, asking them not to get sad when they remember him.
In a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, Eminem shared that, to him, being a good father means being present and not missing important moments in his children’s lives. He emphasized the importance of helping them with homework, even though he himself never finished ninth grade. He acknowledged that his children are already smarter than him.
Eminem was heartbroken when he couldn’t be with his children, like when he was hospitalized in 2007 after a methadone overdose. He recalled waking up and not realizing it was Christmas, immediately wanting to call his kids to assure them he was okay. Missing holidays and his daughter Hailie’s birthday was especially tough for him as a father.
