Ina Garten Opens Up About Her Father’s History of Abuse
Ina Garten is sharing about a difficult part of her past.
In her upcoming memoir Be Ready When Luck Happens, set to be released on Oct. 1, the famous chef delves into her troubled relationship with her late father Charles Rosenberg, a surgeon. She recently provided insight into her upbringing with him.
“I was scared,” Ina revealed in an interview with People published on Sept. 4. “I had physical fear of my dad. I distinctly remember thinking he would harm me if I made a mistake.”
The 76-year-old, who also had an older brother named Ken, explained that her mother, Florence Rosenberg, was not a source of support either. She shared with People, “My mother was just not helpful.”
In fact, Ina, who previously mentioned her difficult childhood as a reason for not having children of her own, confessed that she spent much of her youth isolating herself.
“When there’s a threat of violence, you’re always anxious, even if it’s not happening,” she added. “So I essentially spent my entire childhood in my room with the door shut.”
