Did The Office Create a Parody of Andy Samberg’s Lonely Island Skit? Find Out What Brooklyn Nine-Nine Actor Had to Say
The Office’s parody of The Lonely Island’s Saturday Night Live sketch left Brooklyn Nine Nine actor Andy Samberg confused about whether they were mocking them or just showcasing people’s reactions to the video.
During his appearance on The Lonely Island and Seth Myers podcast, Samberg shared his dilemma over the situation. Instead of overthinking it, Samberg reached out to Mike Schur, one of the showrunners of The Office, who clarified everything.
Responding to questions on the podcast, the Palm Springs actor recalled, “I very distinctly remember it, and I remember having to go through the feelings of, like, ‘Are they making fun of it? Or are they making fun of people doing their version of it?'”
Samberg added, “And slowly coming to realize that Mike [Schur] was our friend and liked what we were making and stuff and being like, ‘Oh, I see.’

Regarding their SNL sketch, The Lonely Island released the video in 2005, with Samberg and Chris Parnell rapping about their day off and getting cupcakes in Lazy Sundays.
Meanwhile, in the Lazy Scranton version, Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson rapped about public parks and libraries in Stamform to welcome new employees.
Sharing his perspective, Seth Myers stated that he doesn’t see Lazy Scranton as mocking, as it aligns with Michael Scott’s character.
Samberg is currently starring in the war film Lee as a photojournalist, alongside Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet.
Lee tells the story of a model turned photographer during World War II.
The movie is now playing in theaters. All nine seasons of The Office U.S. are available for streaming on Peacock.
