‘I Know What It Takes’: Kendrick Lamar Gives A Moving Commence Speech At Compton College

Entertainment Weekly reported that in his commencement speech, the Money Trees rapper expressed his appreciation for the students. Lamar mentioned that he is proud of the city, Compton College, and most importantly, the graduates of the college.

He stated, “I know what it takes.” Lamar addressed the students, acknowledging the hardships they face in their homes, communities, and within themselves, which can be the most difficult to overcome.

Lamar added, “We are still growing day by day, brick by brick, ensuring that we develop not only physically but also spiritually.”

According to the outlet, the rapper encouraged the graduates to be proud of their alma mater, degrees, and city. He emphasized that seeing all the students is not only a representation of the world but also of himself.

“When I walk out in these cities, in these countries, I can be proud and say, ‘This is where I’m from,'” Lamar expressed.

Kendrick Lamar tells Gen Z students to ignore their haters

During his speech, the 36-year-old rapper advised the Gen Z students to not pay attention to those who criticize their generation. He commended their “heart” and “courage” to think independently.

The Damn vocalist added, “Now it’s all about taking these resources and taking what you learned and applying. It’s as simple as that.” Lamar also mentioned that they will face challenges and tribulations but also have something special in their corner and all around them.

His speech has been praised by fans who appreciate his words. Some have drawn comparisons between him and Drake. Netizens were also moved by the rapper’s speech. One user wrote, “The world if Kendrick Lamar did a speech at every graduation.”
