Simone Biles is standing up for her husband Jonathan Owens.
After nearly four months since the football player’s interview sparked controversy, the Olympian opened up about her feelings regarding the criticism and calls for her to divorce him.
“I thought it was funny at first, but then it started to hurt my feelings,” Simone revealed on the April 17 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. “One night, I broke down and asked, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don’t know him. You don’t know his character. Anyone who has met him knows he is the kindest person and would do anything for others.”
The gymnast felt that some of the online remarks crossed a line.
“It really hurt that they were speaking about my husband in that way,” she shared. “For me, it’s okay to criticize me, but do not attack my family – never. I’ve been in the spotlight long enough to shake things off, have my moment to digest it. You may not see me get upset, but I do. I only get emotional because I choose not to respond. Just keep that in mind.”
