Queen Camilla’s Historic Moment at Royal Maundy Service
Queen Camilla recently achieved a royal milestone.
She attended the Royal Maundy Service on March 28 in place of King Charles III, becoming the first spouse of the Monarch to carry on the ancient tradition.
The 75-year-old Queen arrived at Worcester Cathedral wearing a white coat paired with two sapphire and gold brooches that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II, who attended the service almost every year during her 70-year reign.
Camilla took part in the tradition, dating back to 600 A.D., by distributing Maundy Money coins to 150 men and women whom His Majesty described as “wonderful examples of kindness, going beyond the call of duty, and dedicating their lives to serving others in their communities.”
Due to his recent cancer diagnosis, Charles was unable to attend the event in person. However, he expressed his gratitude for those who dedicate their efforts to helping others in a pre-recorded message.
