How Mama June is Adapting to Raising Anna’s 11-Year-Old Daughter
June “Mama June” Shannon is adjusting to her new normal.
After four months of her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell passing away following a 10-month battle with cancer, the 44-year-old explained how life has transformed since gaining temporary custody of her granddaughter Kaitlyn.
“We have taken on the responsibility of an 11-year-old—ensuring she goes to school and striving to maintain as much normalcy as possible for her,” June revealed in an exclusive interview with E! News. “We are also working on establishing a routine for ourselves and maintaining consistency for Kaitlyn because that’s what she needs—structure and consistency.”
Following her petition for a change in child custody and “for emergency ex parte relief” in Georgia in January, the star of Mama June: Family Crisis shared that Kaitlyn moved in with her a month prior to Anna’s passing from stage 4 adrenal carcinoma, and she has been taking care of her since then.
Anna never publicly disclosed the identity of Kaitlyn’s father, but she co-parented her with ex-husband Michael Cardwell before their separation in 2017, who also shares a daughter, Kylee, 8, with Anna. Following Anna’s death, Kylee has been living with Michael.
