House Of The Dragon Season 2 Links Daenerys’ Dragons to Rhaenyra’s Choice at Last
The House of the Dragon Season 2 continues to captivate fans with its captivating storyline that follows the cold war between Aegon and Rhaenyra Targaryen. Amid the increasing bloodshed from both sides, the show has finally unraveled one of the major mysteries of Game of Thrones in the most recent episode.
How did Daenerys Targaryen get her three dragon eggs?
Game of Thrones witnessed the emergence of Daenerys Targaryen as a formidable contender in the race for ruling the seven kingdoms. Daenerys’ rise to power was made possible by her three dragons – Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion – which hatched from three petrified stone eggs gifted to her by Illyrio Mopatis.
Mopatis presented Daenerys with three eggs: one black for Drogon, one gold for Viserion, and one green for Rhaegal. The origin of these eggs had always been shrouded in mystery. George R. R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, hinted that Elissa Farman stole the eggs from Princess Rhaena Targaryen, who sailed across the Sunset Sea after Aegon’s reign over the seven kingdoms.
While the book influenced the House of the Dragon series, the specific revelation of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon egg origin was only provided in Episode 3 of Season 2.

House of the Dragon Season 2 delves into Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon egg origins
In Episode 3 of House of the Dragon Season 2 titled “The Burning Mill,” Rhaenyra entrusted Rhaena with her younger children, Viserys and Aegon, to take them to the Vale of Arryn and then sail to Pentos in Essos for their safety. Rhaenyra gave Rhaena four dragon eggs to protect the Targaryen bloodline.
These four eggs, including black, gold, green, and blue, were instrumental in ensuring the continuation of the Targaryen lineage, as Daenerys successfully hatched three of them, paving her way to power.
This revelation was confirmed by the episode director, Geeta Vasant Patel, in an interview with Mashable, stating that Daenerys’ dragons were born from the eggs given by Rhaenyra.
“Those are Daenerys’ eggs. All of us who work on this show are big Game of Thrones fans, so it was very exciting to shoot that scene,” Patel revealed.
However, the fate of the fourth blue egg given to Rhaena remains a mystery. Whether Rhaena hatched, lost, or traded the egg in Pentos, it could explain why Illyrio Mopatis only had three eggs in his possession.
Episode 3 provided answers to one of the significant mysteries of Game of Thrones. While Rhaenyra ensured Rhaena and her children’s safety, her ultimate fate in the Greens and Blacks war is yet to unfold.
