The Hollywood Reporter Takes Home Top Website Prize at 2024 SoCal Journalism Awards
The Hollywood Reporter was the recipient of the best website award, and Rebecca Keegan was honored as the print journalist of the year at the 66th annual SoCal Journalism Awards ceremony held on Sunday night.
THR claimed a total of 11 first-place awards, including recognition for critics Daniel Fienberg, David Rooney, and Sheri Linden. Additionally, Gary Baum and Ryan Gajewski won for best feature under 1,000 words. Rebecca Keegan also had a successful evening, winning an award for best culture/arts feature under 1,000 words for her piece, “The Auteurs of San Quentin.”
Other winners included Scott Feinberg for best audio personality profile/interview over 10 minutes, Anaja Smith for best use of social media tied to a cover story, and THR’s photo department for awards in photo essays and entertainment portraits.
The prestigious awards are presented by the Los Angeles Press Club, with over 2,300 entries received this year. The winners were announced at a gala dinner at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
Special honorary awards were also given to individuals such as Jane Seymour, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, The Wall Street Journal’s Evan Gershkovich, Fox 11’s Amanda Sala, and the National Press Photographers Association’s Mickey H. Osterreicher.
During his acceptance speech for the Joseph Quinn Lifetime Achievement Award, Stephen A. Smith emphasized the importance of standing up for the truth in journalism. Despite a brief technical hiccup with the lights in the ballroom, Smith continued his speech to the amusement of the audience.
