Hoda Kotb Opens Up About the Surprising Moment That Led to Her Decision to Leave Today
Hoda Kotb is prepared for her new normal.
Almost two weeks after announcing her departure from the morning show early next year, the longtime Today cohost shed new light on her decision to move on after over 16 years.
“I feel like I’m going through a repotting process,” Hoda told Jimmy Fallon during an appearance on The Tonight Show on Oct. 7. “It’s like when you pull yourself up by the roots and you’re hanging there and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, what am I doing? What’s going on?’ But you know you’re going to land in fertile ground.”
Although Hoda’s announcement on September 26 may have been unexpected for Today fans, she revealed that the moment she knew she needed to move on occurred earlier in the summer.
“When I turned 60, something strange happened,” she said. “I turned 60 and we had this amazing party at the Today show and I looked out at all the people who came, the beautiful signs, and the well wishes, and I just knew in my heart like, ‘This is it.’ This must be what it feels like at the peak of the mountain. I had never felt that before.”
