Prasanth Varma, director of HanuMan, remains hopeful as Teja Sajja starrer falls short in India’s Oscar race against Laapataa Ladies
India has officially chosen the Kiran Rao-directed Laapataa Ladies as its entry for the Oscars, a proud moment for the Indian film industry. The film HanuMan, which was also in contention, lost out to the Hindi-language movie, prompting the director of the former to share a post about it.
Sharing a photo of the list of films in the running for the Indian Oscar selection, the director simply posted a fingers crossed emoji. With Aamir Khan as one of the producers, Laapataa Ladies is now headed to the Oscars. The final results are eagerly awaited.

Besides HanuMan, other South Indian films like Kalki 2898 AD, Aattam, Kottukkaali, Maharaja, Ullozhukku, Aadujeevitham, Mangalavaaram, Vaazhai, Jama, Thangalaan, and Cannes Grand Prix winner All We Imagine As Light were also contenders.
Laapataa Ladies, released in 2023, tells the story of two newly-wed brides who get swapped accidentally during their train journey home to their respective in-laws. The comedy-drama takes us through the journey of one bride finding her way back to her husband while the other sees it as a chance for liberation.
The film stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan among others. It is now available for streaming on Netflix.
HanuMan, which came out in 2024, is a Telugu-language superhero movie directed by Prasanth Varma. It follows the story of Hanumanthu, a young man from Anjanadri village who gains powers from Lord Hanuman after encountering a gem.
Using his powers to protect his village, he faces off against Micheal, a mysterious would-be superhero. The film stars Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Samuthirakani, and more.
