Govinda’s wife, Sunita, recalls his dislike for being ‘second lead’ to Akshay Kumar and others; opens up about his fallout with David Dhawan
Bollywood veteran Govinda and filmmaker David Dhawan were a successful duo in the past. They entertained audiences with movies like Kyo Kii Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta, Jodi No.1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and more. However, their collaboration came to an end due to differences in opinions. Govinda’s wife, Sunita, recently shared details about their fallout and revealed that David Dhawan suggested that Govinda should take on second lead roles, which Govinda did not agree with.
Sunita Ahuja, who has been with Govinda for a long time, discussed the fallout between her husband and David Dhawan. She mentioned that the two shared a close bond but things turned sour when David Dhawan proposed that Govinda should consider taking on second lead roles, similar to Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar.
She expressed her opinion that actors need to recognize when it’s time to transition to different kinds of roles. She acknowledged Govinda’s stardom in the 90s but emphasized the importance of adapting to the current trends in the industry. Sunita suggested that the influence of ‘yes men’ around them could have contributed to Govinda’s resistance to the idea of playing a second lead role.
Sunita also speculated that Govinda may have been uncomfortable with the idea of playing second fiddle to other actors because of his successful solo projects with David Dhawan in the 90s. Their disagreement on this matter led to their separation in the professional realm. Sunita expressed understanding for both Govinda and David Dhawan’s perspectives on the issue.
It is worth noting that their last collaboration was in the movie Do Knot Disturb, released in 2009.
