Director of Godzilla vs. Kong Sequel Provides Update on Monsterverse’s Latest Film
The MonsterVerse is gearing up for an exciting new sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire. Fans can expect the return of the iconic Titans, but there’s a major change happening behind the scenes.
New director set to take over
Adam Wingard, who directed Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, will not be returning for the next installment. Grant Sputore, known for I Am Mother, will be taking on the directorial role. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Sputore confirmed his new position and expressed his excitement and gratitude towards Legendary for giving him the opportunity to work with giant monsters he has been a fan of since childhood.
Sputore’s enthusiasm promises a fresh perspective for the franchise. He stated, “Well, this is (literal) HUGE news. It’s also a huge honor. I’ve been a giant monster fan for as long as I’ve been a fan of anything – and to follow in the footsteps of the other incredible directors who have worked in the MonsterVerse is a dream come true. Can’t thank Legendary enough for this Titan-sized opportunity.”

Keeping up with it
Wingard left on good terms, with no hard feelings from either him or Legendary. He had prior commitments that conflicted with the timing of the next installment. Despite his departure, Wingard hinted at some intriguing ideas he had for the series, indicating a deeper exploration of Godzilla’s story similar to what was done with Kong in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Legendary is wasting no time capitalizing on the success of Godzilla x Kong. This film has surpassed all other entries in the MonsterVerse, prompting the makers to further leverage this momentum. With a new creative team that includes screenwriter Dave Callaham from Shang-Chi and director David F. Sandberg, the franchise may see continued success.
