Well, you might want to have it checked out, especially if it’s an invisible man sleeping in your bed. But what’s still going strong is Ghostbusters, four decades after the comedy featuring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis as parapsychologists hit the big screen.
“It’s packed with laughs, special effects, a film for the whole family,” Aykroyd modestly described the Ivan Reitman-directed movie on The Tonight Show before its release in June 1984. “We’re very, very excited. It’s going to be fantastic.”
Call it fate, call it luck, call it karma: Ghostbusters was the highest-grossing film of the year in the U.S., raking in nearly $300 million globally.
“I knew it was going to be a big movie,” Murray joked on TODAY in 2014. “At that time, we were still watching Yankee Doodle Dandy on TV, so I thought we had a decent chance.”
