“This Character from Fire & Blood Might Not Appear in House of the Dragon Season 3, According to George RR Martin”
George R.R. Martin recently shared a major spoiler but reassured fans of the series that it will not significantly impact their viewing experience. However, for readers of the books, it may be disappointing. Whether it’s Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, the creators have taken liberties in adjusting certain storylines from their original source materials.
In a blog post that has since been deleted, Martin confirmed that a major character from Fire & Blood, Maelor Targaryen, will not be featured in the series adaptation. “If you have never read Fire & Blood, maybe it does not matter, because all I am going to ‘spoil’ here are things that may NEVER happen on the series,” the author wrote.
Book readers were surprised by the absence of Maelor but hoped to see him in future seasons. However, Martin has now confirmed that he may never appear in the show. “The prince’s birth was no longer just going to be pushed back to season 3. He was never going to be born at all. The younger son of Aegon and Helaena would never appear,” he added.
In the books, Maelor played a crucial role in the infamous Blood and Cheese incident. His gruesome death would have been challenging to depict on screen even if he were to appear in the upcoming seasons.
When Rhaenyra *book spoiler alert* attacks King’s Landing and takes the throne, Maelor is sent away with Rickard Thorne to Oldtown while Helaena’s daughter Jaehara is entrusted to Willis Fell, who takes her to the Baratheons. Despite fighting bravely, Thorne doesn’t survive past the Bitterbridge, and Maelor meets a tragic end.
House of the Dragon season 1 and 2 are now available for streaming on Jio Cinema.
