The Passing of Gary Sinise’s Son, McCanna “Mac” Sinise, at 33 Years Old
The Sinise family is grieving a tragic loss.
Gary Sinise‘s son McCanna “Mac” Sinise passed away at the age of 33 on Jan. 5, after battling a rare form of bone cancer known as Chordoma for over five years, as shared by the Forrest Gump actor on Feb. 27.
“Similar to any family coping with such a loss, we are devastated and dealing with it the best we can,” he wrote in a statement on Feb. 27 on the Gary Sinise Foundation website. “Losing a child is incredibly difficult for parents. My thoughts are with all those who have experienced a similar loss, and with anyone who has lost a loved one.”
Although Gary and his wife Moira Harris—who also have daughters Ella Sinise, 32, and Sophie Sinise, 35—described his passing as “heartbreaking,” they also expressed gratitude that their son is no longer suffering.
“Our family’s battle with cancer lasted for 5 ½ years, and it became increasingly challenging over time,” his statement continued. “While we deeply miss him, we find solace in the fact that Mac is no longer in pain, and we are inspired by how he faced it.”
