Insights on Jason Momoa’s Character in ‘Garrett’s The Noob’: A Minecraft Movie Director’s Perspective
The highly anticipated Minecraft movie is currently in production! The official announcement revealed a star-studded cast including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge, causing excitement to soar among fans of the game.
Director Jared Hess recently shared some intriguing details about the film. In an interview with ComicBook, Hess hinted at what viewers can expect from Momoa’s character. He described Garrett as a former world champion gamer from the 1980s who is still stuck in a childish mindset and hasn’t matured. Despite his gaming experience, Garrett is unfamiliar with Minecraft.
“He’s still stuck in the past, he’s got a little bit of arrested development. He’s holding on to that former glory… Garrett’s the noob,” Hess explained. Momoa’s character, known as Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison, is one of the four misfits in the movie who find themselves transported into the world of Minecraft.
Once in the game world, the misfits must navigate strange scenarios and defend themselves against creatures like piglins and zombies. With the help of expert crafter Steve (Jack Black), they embark on a quest to return home after encountering the malevolent Ender Dragon.
While all four characters have important roles in the story, Momoa’s character offers a unique opportunity for exploration and understanding of the Minecraft world. Garrett can serve as a guide for viewers unfamiliar with the game.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release the Minecraft Movie in theaters on April 4, 2025.
