Gabourey Sidibe Reveals the Unique Significance of Her Twins’ Names
Elon Musk revealed his and Grimes‘ baby boy X Æ A-12 to the public on Twitter in May 2020. They later adjusted the spelling of his name to comply with California’s regulations, which only allow letters from the English alphabet. Changing to Roman numerals, the parents decided to spell his name X Æ A-Xii.
“X, the unknown variable,” Grimes elaborated on Twitter. “Æ, my elven interpretation of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence) A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.”
Grimes added, “A=Archangel, my favorite song” along with a rat and sword emoji. “Metal rat.”
In March 2022, she announced the arrival of their daughter Exa Dark Sideræl Musk through a surrogate.
“Exa is a nod to the supercomputing term exaFLOPS (the capacity to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second),” she explained. “Dark signifies ‘the unknown. People fear it but really it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the enchanting enigma of our universe.’
Sideræl—pronounced “sigh-deer-ee-el”—represents “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time,” she revealed, and pays homage to her beloved Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel, who “chooses to renounce the ring.”
