Reports have emerged about the passing of former hockey player Konstantin Koltsov.
The Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed on March 19 that the 42-year-old former partner of professional tennis player Aryna Sabalenka died by suicide, stating that there was “no foul play suspected.”
Koltsov represented Belarus in the Olympics of 2002 and 2010, and also played for the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins from 2003 to 2006. He later moved to Russia to join the Salavat Yulaev Ufa team, where he eventually became an assistant coach.
“He was known for his strength and positive spirit,” mentioned the Kontinental Hockey League team in a translated statement on March 18. “He was admired and respected by players, colleagues, and fans.”
The statement went on to say, “Konstantin will always be remembered in the history of our club. He was part of the team that won the Russian Championship and the Gagarin Cup with Salavat Yulaev, and made valuable contributions to the coaching staff.”
